Roewe Jiayue 07 Aims to Revive Brand With AI Cabin and Family-Focused EREV

SAIC's Roewe launched blind reservations for the Jiayue 07 EREV SUV, targeting China's fiercely competitive 150,000-RMB family-SUV segment with AI-driven smart cabin features and a claimed 1,480 km combined range.

A New Chapter for Roewe

SAIC Motor's Roewe brand opened blind reservations for the Jiayue 07 on August 13, marking what the company hopes will be a decisive return to the mainstream Chinese new-energy-vehicle market. The launch event focused on styling, interior space and family-oriented amenities rather than deep technical details, a deliberate choice that signals Roewe is trying a fresh storytelling approach after years of brand uncertainty.

Roewe first captured public attention around 2016 when the RX5 helped define China's "internet car" wave with its Zebra infotainment system. But the competitive landscape has shifted dramatically since then — from smart screens to advanced driver-assistance systems to on-device AI large language models — and Roewe has spent the intervening years regrouping while sibling brand MG found fresh momentum with models like the MG4 and the emerging MG07.

Specs and Pricing

The Jiayue 07 is an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) SUV positioned in the approx. $20,833 (150,000 RMB) price bracket, with the final guide price expected to float slightly above or below that line. Key specifications include a combined range of 1,480 km, a pure-electric CLTC range of 320 km, and a 915-litre boot.

Interior highlights announced at the reservation launch include dual zero-gravity front seats, a refrigerator co-developed with Midea, a 2.5K rear ceiling-mounted screen, and a front-passenger vanity table — features aimed squarely at multi-person households.

Intelligent Driving and AI Cabin

Under the hood of the vehicle's smart-driving stack sits Momenta's R7 world-model algorithm paired with the XHEART X7 chip, the same silicon used in SAIC Volkswagen's ID.ERA lineup. According to testing by the source outlet, the R7 system shows notable improvements over its R6 predecessor: stronger narrow-road negotiation, more decisive decision-making during tight oncoming-vehicle encounters, smoother multi-gear U-turns, better speed control that reduces emergency interventions, and more accurate lane selection in complex road environments. Certain limitations remain, including degraded performance at underground-parking waypoints and, on some platform-mate models, the inability to activate intelligent driving from Park.

The deeper differentiator, Roewe says, is its AI-native cabin. The Jiayue 07 is fitted with OMS sensors and cameras at both front and rear seats, enabling family-profile recognition via Face ID, long-term memory of preferences, and AI-driven coordination across seating, climate, refrigeration, displays and lighting. The brand argues that future family-EV competition will be decided on whether a car can "recognize you, remember you and understand you" — not merely on seat count or boot volume.

Stiff Competition Ahead

Even with a strong spec sheet, the approx. $20,833 EREV family-SUV segment is one of the most crowded stretches of road in China. The Jiayue 07 faces at least five established rivals in the same price band: the Leapmotor C16, Chery's iCAR V27 (equipped with Horizon Hardware and software), a Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 Pro-equipped model, Exeed's ET5 (a recent runner-up at three straight intelligent-driving competitions), and the BYD Sea Lion 06 DM, a sales constant in the segment.

Roewe attributes its ability to pack so many features into a 150,000-RMB car to a new development and manufacturing model built on platform sharing, multi-model architecture commonality and supply-chain coordination — strategies that allow higher-trim features to trickle down from vehicles once priced above 300,000 RMB.

Whether the Jiayue 07 can convert reservation interest into sustained sales will depend on whether its AI-cabin narrative resonates with buyers who have heard the "mobile home" pitch many times before. Roewe's challenge is no longer proving it can build a competent NEV; it is convincing the market that this model represents a genuine reset rather than a rebranding exercise.
