History
BYD was founded in 1995 as a rechargeable-battery maker in Shenzhen and entered the auto industry in 2003. Its Blade Battery and DM-i plug-in hybrid technology helped it overtake Tesla in global EV sales. BYD now sells across dozens of markets and operates its own battery supply chain.
