Stelato, the premium electric-vehicle brand backed by Huawei's HIMA division, has launched the G9, marking its entry into the hardcore off-road SUV segment.

The G9 is Stelato's first model explicitly designed for rugged terrain, departing from the brand's earlier road-oriented sedans and crossovers. Buyers can choose between a pure battery-electric (BEV) powertrain and a range-extended electric (EREV) configuration, which pairs an electric motor with a small onboard generator to extend driving range.

Interior flexibility is another priority: the G9 is offered with five- or six-seat layouts, catering to both family-oriented and utilitarian buyers. Pricing begins at approximately $63,300 for the base model, positioning it in the premium off-road segment alongside established names like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Range Rover, though at a considerably more accessible price point.

Off-road capability meets electrified efficiency

While detailed specifications have yet to be fully disclosed, the G9 is expected to feature an advanced four-wheel-drive system, elevated ground clearance, and terrain-management modes suited for off-pavement use. The EREV variant addresses one of the persistent challenges of BEVs on long remote trips—range anxiety—by providing a gasoline generator as a backup energy source.

As with other Stelato models, the G9 is likely to incorporate Huawei's intelligent-driving and smart-cockpit technologies, including advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and connected infotainment features powered by the company's chip and software ecosystem.

The launch of the G9 signals Stelato's ambition to diversify beyond its initial lineup and compete in the increasingly crowded premium EV market, where traditional automakers and Chinese new-energy startups are all vying for consumers willing to pay a premium for technology and capability.
