China's electric vehicle charging and swapping network surpassed 9,500 stations as of early October 2026, with NIO adding six new energy replenishment sites to its nationwide system.

NIO Power announced the launch of six new stations, including swapping and ultra-fast charging facilities in Zhengzhou, Taiyuan, Datong, and Chifeng. The new installations expand access to NIO's comprehensive recharging ecosystem, which combines battery-swap stations and high-power chargers to reduce downtime for electric vehicle owners.

China's Charging Infrastructure Reaches 9,529 Stations

As of October 5, 2026, China had built a total of 9,529 charging and swapping stations. The network includes 4,163 battery-swap stations and 5,366 charging stations equipped with 30,922 individual charging piles. NIO reported that its swap service has cumulatively provided more than 120 million battery-swap events since operations began.

The rapid expansion reflects China's push to support its world-leading new-energy vehicle market. Government targets and private investment have driven widespread deployment of both standard chargers and fast-charging infrastructure across urban and rural areas.

NIO's Six New Energy Replenishment Sites

The newly launched NIO Power stations are located at:

  • Zhengzhou Zhengkai Avenue Jinliu Road – Swap station
  • Zhengzhou Zhengkai Avenue Jinliu Road – Ultra-fast charging station
  • Taiyuan Stargaze Hotel – Charging station
  • Datong Dayou Plaza Full Season Hotel – Charging station
  • Chifeng Sumu Grassland Xiangju Farmstay – Charging station
  • Chifeng Wudan Town Moye House Courtyard Hotel – Charging station

The mix of swap and charge options illustrates NIO's dual approach to reducing range anxiety. Battery swapping allows owners to replace depleted packs in minutes, while ultra-fast chargers offer a convenient alternative for destinations without swap infrastructure.

Industry Context

China's NEV charging network growth continues to outpace other major markets. The sheer scale of station construction supports the country's electric vehicle adoption rates, which have seen strong monthly sales for domestic brands such as BYD, NIO, XPENG, and Li Auto.

Infrastructure expansion remains a key factor in consumer confidence, as availability and convenience directly influence purchase decisions for both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
