Tesla released its third-quarter 2026 production and delivery report on October 3, showing the company delivered over 486,000 pure electric vehicles globally in Q3 — up 1.3% sequentially. Production came in just under 464,000 units, a 2.7% quarter-over-quarter increase.
Energy storage deployments reached 13.7 gigawatt-hours during the same period, reflecting a year-on-year growth of approximately 9.6%.
The Shanghai Gigafactory — Tesla's largest export hub, supplying both the domestic Chinese market and Europe as well as the Asia-Pacific region — delivered more than 86,000 vehicles in August alone, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). The factory accounts for over half of Tesla's annual global deliveries.
In China, the Model Y dominated the first half of 2026 with retail sales exceeding 172,000 units, topping the SUV segment across fuel, hybrid and pure electric categories. It also claimed the title of best-selling single passenger vehicle twice, in March and June.
Model 3 Refresh Hits China
On October 1, Tesla updated the entire Model 3 lineup available in China. The centerpiece change is a new 16-inch central touchscreen — a significant jump from the existing screen size. A light gray interior color was added alongside a redesigned dark-gray 19-inch wheel option that replaces the previous finish.
Both the current Model 3 and Model Y now support AC external power discharge, commonly known as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), expanding their utility for camping and home backup scenarios.
Tesla also has several new products in the pipeline. The Cybercab driverless vehicle began multi-city tours in China recently, the electric Semi truck has started production deliveries in North America and Europe, and the second-generation Roadster is scheduled for an October 15 launch event.

On the safety front, the Model Y earned top scores across multiple categories in the 2026 China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI) test, following its earlier IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. The Model 3 retained its NHTSA five-star safety rating as well.
Globally, Tesla surpassed its full-year 2025 delivery volume in 14 markets through August, including South Korea, France and Australia. The Model Y has become a monthly top-selling passenger vehicle in several countries.
For the Chinese market, Tesla introduced a limited-time promotion valid through October 31. Buyers ordering the Model 3 full lineup and selected Model Y trims can receive a reduction on the final payment and a five-year zero-interest financing plan, alongside optional charging service packages.
