SAIC Q3 Sales Hit 3.15 Million Units, Maintains China Sales Lead

SAIC Group sold 3.147 million vehicles in the first three quarters of 2026, with NEV sales surging 28.2% and exports climbing 52.4%, driven by strong performances from MG, IM Motors, and self-owned brands.

SAIC Group released its September and first-three-quarter 2026 sales figures on October 3, reporting a cumulative 3,147,000 vehicle sales for January through September, maintaining its position as China's top-selling automaker.

The group sold 406,000 vehicles in September alone. Self-owned brands accounted for 2,303,000 units in the quarter — a 12.6% year-on-year increase representing 73.2% of total group sales. September's self-owned brand output of 304,000 units marked the ninth consecutive month of annual growth at +3.3%.

SAIC Passenger Vehicles posted the strongest gain at +45.6% to 868,000 units. Maxus (SAICMAXUS) reached 215,000 units, up 34%. SAIC-GM Wuling held steady at 1,060,000 units.

The new-energy vehicle (NEV) segment outpaced the broader market, with cumulative sales of 1,388,000 units, a 28.2% increase. September's 225,000-unit NEV figure set a new monthly record for the group.

NEV Breakdown and Hot Models

IM Motors delivered 60,000 units in the quarter, up 40.1%. The all-new IM LS6 SUV generated over 11,000 orders within 57 minutes of launch. SAIC Passenger Vehicles' NEV sub-division hit 415,000 units, soaring 170.1%. The Roewe Jiayue 07 garnered more than 20,000 pre-sale orders in its first 48 hours. The MG4 family exceeded 16,000 deliveries in September, and the MG 07 crossed 14,000 units.

Joint-venture NEV sales also strengthened: SAIC-GM sold 94,000 NEV units (+67.4%), while SAIC Volkswagen moved 56,000 NEV units (+25.9%).

Overseas Expansion Accelerates

SAIC exported 1,166,000 vehicles in the first three quarters, a 52.4% increase. September exports totaled 150,000 units, up 49.1%. Europe remains SAIC's largest overseas market, with the MG brand selling over 280,000 units in the region, up 23%.

Subtle August export data showed pure-electric models exceeding 10,000 units (+93.3%), plug-in hybrids surpassing 5,000 units (+56.4%), and hybrids reaching 14,000 units (+8.5%).

MG models collected multiple international awards recently: the MG4 EV Urban was named Best Small Electric Car by Britain's What Car?; the MG HS PHEV won Best PHEV from Auto Express and Best Hybrid from What Car?; and the MG ZS Hybrid+ took Best Small SUV from Australia's WHICH CAR? and Best Hybrid from Spain's Carwow.
