Geely September Sales Rise 7% to 2026 High as Record Export Streak Ends

Geely's September sales hit a 2026 high with a 7% year-on-year increase, but its export dominance hit a pause: 106,685 units shipped — up 162% from a year earlier, but down 3% from August, ending eight straight months of record overseas volume.

Geely Auto reported September sales climbing 7% year-on-year, marking the strongest single-month figure of 2026 so far. The result extends the Hangzhou-based group's momentum into the final quarter, even as its once-unbroken export run came to a stop.

Overseas shipments totaled 106,685 vehicles in the month, up a striking 162% from September 2024. The year-over-year gain underscores how far Geely's international strategy has come — from niche player to one of China's most active auto exporters. But the 3% dip from August's figure broke a streak of eight consecutive months in which export volume had topped the previous record each time.

The August high had set expectations sky-high, making September's slight pullback a natural regression rather than a signal of weakening demand. August's volume benefited from a mix of strong roll-outs across Latin America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, regions where Geely-affiliated brands such as Zeekr, Lynk & Co and Geometry have been gaining share at an accelerating pace.

Domestic sales continued to provide the bulk of the group's revenue, but the export story remains the one that has captivated investors and competitors alike. The 162% jump over a year ago reflects not just higher unit volume but a more diversified portfolio of models and markets — no longer reliant on a handful of flagship platforms but spreading across compact EVs, mid-size sedans and premium offerings under the Zeekr and Lynk & Co banners.

Industry analysts note that the end of the export streak does not necessarily portend a slowdown. Geely's global manufacturing footprint — including plants in Thailand, Indonesia and Brazil — continues to expand, and the group's partnership with Mercedes-Benz on the smart brand is already delivering product in markets that previously saw little Chinese-brand presence.

September's overall 7% sales gain kept Geely on track to defend its position among China's top five automakers by volume heading into year-end. Whether the group can rekindle its export rhythm in October — and sustain the momentum through November and December — will depend on how quickly it can ship new model variants to key overseas dealerships before the usual holiday lull sets in.
