NIO Recalls 686 Firefly EVs in China Over Steering Safety Risk

NIO has launched a recall affecting 686 Firefly electric vehicles produced in China between March 20 and April 2, 2026, citing a safety concern related to the steering system.

According to the recall notice, a manufacturing issue in the affected vehicles may result in abnormal steering sensor signals, potentially compromising driver control and posing a safety risk on the road.

Recall Scope

The recall is limited to a narrow production window — vehicles built over just thirteen days. This limited scope suggests the defect may stem from a specific component batch or a transient assembly-line issue rather than a systemic design flaw.

Owners of affected Firefly units will need to contact NIO service centers for inspection and repair. NIO has not yet disclosed the exact nature of the fix or whether a software update or hardware replacement will be required.
