Horizon Makes 15 Millionth Journey Chip for VW's ID. AURA T6

Shanghai-based Horizon Technology celebrated a major milestone on September 15, announcing that its 15-millionth Journey-series autonomous-driving chip would be installed in the FAW-Volkswagen ID. AURA T6, the joint venture's first strategic model for its new electrification era.

Yu Kai, Horizon's founder and CEO, confirmed the milestone during a ceremony at the company's Lingang technology park in Shanghai. Wang Shengli, deputy general manager of FAW-Volkswagen's commercial operations, was on hand and officially became the 001st owner of the ID. AURA T6, receiving the keys at the event.

Founded in 2015, Horizon has spent 11 years building what is now China's leading ADAS chip business. The Journey 6 series entered mass production in 2025, and cumulative shipments surpassed 15 million units in 2026. According to GGVI Research data, Horizon captured more than 50% of the domestic brand ADAS chip market in the first half of 2026 — roughly double that of the runner-up — and holds 22.8% of the urban NOA chip segment for Chinese brands, up 5 percentage points year over year.

Over 8 million vehicles equipped with Journey chips are currently on the road, accumulating more than 100 billion kilometers of real-world driving data across diverse global conditions. Horizon says this scale of field validation underpins the safety and reliability claims for its chips.

The ID. AURA T6 is the first FAW-Volkswagen model to feature the Journey 6H chip, powered by Horizon's HSD (Horizon Smart Driving) AI foundation model. Wang described the collaboration as a key milestone in the joint venture's domestic intelligence transformation and a demonstration of German engineering combined with Chinese software capability.

Horizon also previewed the upcoming HSD V2.1 release, which will add full-scenario automatic reverse capability. The system uses an end-to-end model to generate trajectories directly, aiming to make tight-space maneuvering and narrow-road passage smoother. Yu Kai announced that HSD will be mass-produced on a model from a top Chinese NEV maker later this year.

Beyond OEM partnerships, Horizon collaborates with global Tier 1 suppliers including Bosch, Aptiv, Denso and OMVI. Overseas orders for Horizon chips have exceeded 20 million units.
