Sunwoda Enters China's Flash-Charging Race With 9-Minute System

Chinese battery manufacturer Sunwoda has entered the country's intensifying flash-charging race, unveiling a new battery system it says can charge an EV from 10% to 70% in just five minutes at room temperature, and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.

The figures place Sunwoda alongside other domestic players already pushing the boundaries of ultra-fast charging, including CATL, BYD, and several startups. The company did not specify which vehicle platforms or battery chemistries the system is built for, nor whether it has secured design-win agreements with automakers.

Room-Temperature Fast Charging

Sunwoda emphasized that its 10%-to-70% charge time is achievable at room temperature without pre-conditioning the battery pack—a detail that matters in real-world use, as many fast-charging systems require the cell temperature to be raised before peak power is applied.
