NIO ES9 Maintains 500K RMB Sales Crown; ES8 Takes Double Lead
NIO's ES9 and ES8 dominate China's premium EV SUV market, with ES9 hitting 20,000 deliveries in 73 days and ES8 scoring the highest NPS among all surveyed pure-EVs.
Dual-flagship dominance in China's premium EV SUV market
China's Automobile Distributors Association released July 2026 sales data on August 11, revealing that NIO's ES9 and ES8 have secured top positions in the country's high-end electric SUV segments. The ES9 leads the 500,000 RMB tier while the ES8 tops the 400,000 RMB category — a dual-champion showing that reinforces NIO's position at the top of China's premium EV landscape.
ES9: 20,000 deliveries in just 73 days
The ES9 has now held the 500,000 RMB+ pure-EV sales crown for two consecutive months. Since deliveries began, the flagship executive SUV reached the 20,000-unit milestone in only 73 days, setting a new benchmark for delivery speed in its price segment. That figure is equivalent to roughly one unit every 3.6 hours during the launch window.
In US dollar terms, the 500,000 RMB threshold corresponds to approx. $69,400, making the ES9 a direct competitor to vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and the upcoming Lucid Gravity in the ultra-premium electric space.
ES8: volume and reputation lead simultaneously
The ES8 recorded 10,284 retail units sold in July, claiming the top spot in both the large-SUV segment and the 400,000 RMB (~approx. $55,600) price bracket. Beyond volume, the model also led in user satisfaction.
According to NPS (Net Promoter Score) research from third-party consultancy Jielan Road, the ES8 scored 85.3 — the highest among all pure-EV models surveyed. That places it ahead of close rivals such as the Li Auto L9 and the Xiaomi YU7 in customer advocacy metrics.
What this means for the market
NIO's dual-success with the ES9 and ES8 signals that Chinese premium EV buyers are increasingly willing to spend above 400,000 RMB on domestically branded electric SUVs. The brand's strategy of maintaining multiple price tiers within the luxury segment — from the 400,000 RMB ES8 up to the 500,000+ RMB ES9 — appears to be paying off as both models run concurrently at the top of their respective charts.
The broader trend of accelerating pure-EV transition in China's premium SUV market is expected to continue, with NIO's dual-flagship approach likely to draw attention from both domestic competitors and global players monitoring the world's largest NEV market.
