NIO is preparing to mark a major milestone for its flagship electric SUV, the ES8, with the 140,000th unit set to be delivered this week.

An NIO executive teased the upcoming figure on social media, revealing that ES8 deliveries have been maintaining a consistent pace of roughly 10,000 units per month. The remark signals sustained demand for the three-row mid-to-large SUV, which remains one of NIO's best-selling models since its initial launch.

The ES8 entered the Chinese EV market in December 2018 as NIO's first vehicle and its largest offering. Now in its second generation, the updated ES8 arrived in 2023 with a revised design, improved battery options, and continued support for the company's signature battery-swap technology. It competes against rivals such as the Li Auto L9, the Tesla Model X, and a growing stack of Chinese EV SUVs targeting the premium family segment.

A monthly volume of around 10,000 ES8 units places the model among the stronger sellers in NIO's lineup. The brand as a whole has been posting record delivery months throughout 2024 and into 2025, benefiting from an expanded model range that now includes the ET7 sedan, ET5 sedan, EC6 and EC7 coupé-SUVs, the EL8 (internationally marketed as the NIO Atlas), and the new EL6 compact SUV.

Reaching 140,000 cumulative ES8 deliveries also reflects NIO's ability to sustain long-cycle product momentum — a notable achievement in a Chinese EV market where model lifecycles are shrinking and price wars intensify every quarter. The ES8 has been periodically refreshed rather than fully replaced, allowing it to stay competitive while the brand concentrates development resources on newer platforms and its upcoming volume-oriented sub-brand, Onvo.

NIO's battery-swap infrastructure continues to underpin the ES8's appeal. The company operates more than 2,800 swap stations across China, and the ES8's compatible battery-pack design lets owners swap a depleted pack for a full one in about three minutes — a convenience that differentiates it from competitors reliant solely on charging.

The ES8 remains available with both 75 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs, as well as swap-compatible 100 kWh and 150 kWh semi-solid-state options. Range figures vary accordingly, with the longer-range packs delivering over 600 km (CLTC) on a single charge.

As NIO moves past the 140,000-ES8 mark, the brand's next focus is scaling production of its newer models and expanding its international footprint, particularly in European markets where the ET7, ET5, and EL8 are already on sale.
