The Qijing GX7, a collaborative effort between GAC Group and Huawei, officially went on sale in China on September 23. The brand’s first model, a range-extended electric SUV positioned as an "expansive five-seater," carries a limited-time promotional price of approx. $31,931–$40,542 (China market 189,800–291,900 RMB). Order numbers hit 15,318 large deposits within 18 hours.

The GX7 is the result of strategic cooperation between GAC Chairman Feng Xingya and Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, who discussed next-generation intelligent vehicle development in a recent meeting. Huawei’s seven automotive smart solutions — including Qiankun intelligent driving, HarmonyOS cockpit, Qiankun Chitu platform,车载光, Jingqi communications, Qiankun vehicle-cloud, and Zhiqu powertrain — make their full debut on this model.

Smart space built for family scenarios

The headline feature is the brand’s 20-second one-click pure-flat bed, which GAC says is an industry first. With a single voice command, the rear leg rest, cushion, backrest and headrest unfold into a 180-degree flat sleeping surface while luggage in the trunk remains untouched. After the bed is deployed, the cargo area can still accommodate two 24-inch or four 20-inch suitcases.

The system also hides seat belts automatically, includes integrated pillows and offers massage functions without additional accessories. The standard five-seat layout supports a 142-degree electric recline for the zero-gravity seats and provides 855mm of vertical space, allowing adults to sit upright and children to stand.

Beyond the bed mode, the GX7 offers more than 12 configurable space modes, including a 4/6 partition parent-child companion setup, an L-shaped chaise lounge, and a private viewing hall with a 32-inch cabin cinema and a 21-speaker HUAWEI SOUND system.

L3-ready architecture and quad laser radar

Qijing positions the GX7 as a vehicle built for long-term evolution rather than one-time feature delivery. The SUV comes standard with a native L3 autonomous-driving architecture featuring eight core redundant systems — power supply, communications, computing, positioning, braking, steering, sensing and interaction.

In the power-supply redundancy example, a 12V low-voltage line handles cabin, lighting, steering and brake-boost functions while a high-voltage circuit drives the motor and air conditioning; the two circuits are physically separated at the source so either can take over within milliseconds if the other fails.

Sensing hardware includes the class-only quad laser-radar arrangement: one 896-line dual-optical-path imaging-grade laser radar paired with three high-precision solid-state units, complemented by a distributed 4D millimeter-wave radar matrix for a total of 38 high-performance sensors. GAC claims the system can identify 14-centimeter-tall objects at 120 meters in darkness and detect garage steps, overhead pipes and children’s toys that typically blind other ADAS systems.

The in-cabin experience runs on HarmonyOS Cockpit 6, which introduces a virtual pet that reacts to gear selection, battery level, steering and incoming calls. An AMS cabin-fusion perception system can detect when a child has fallen asleep and automatically dims interior lights, lowers volume and reduces airflow.

Range, charging and ride quality

The GX7 uses a jointly developed extended-range powertrain from GAC and Huawei. The CLTC pure-electric range reaches 385 km, while combined range with the range extender exceeds 1,500 km. A 800V 5C high-voltage platform allows fast charging from 30 to 80 percent in approximately 10 minutes.

Chassis dynamics are managed by the Qiankun Chitu platform’s six-in-one domain controller, which unifies drive, brake, steering, suspension, body and thermal management with latency as low as one millisecond. The mechanical layout features a double-wishbone front and H-arm multi-link rear suspension with continuously variable-damping dampers and a closed dual-chamber air spring, tuned by a team with supercar experience.

An AI-driven spatial reasoning suspension system claims a 30 percent reduction in impact forces and a 25 percent improvement in body stability. A dedicated motion-sickness mitigation mode for elderly and young passengers reportedly improves acceleration smoothness by 60 percent, braking smoothness by 90 percent and cornering smoothness by 26 percent.

Manufacturing quality control was upgraded at GAC’s lighthouse factory using Huawei’s communication-grade inspection standards. The final assembly line now includes over 500 AI detection points, 90-plus frequent self-check routines across vehicle systems, and a 40 percent increase in full-vehicle inspection items.

The Qijing GX7 enters a crowded "mobile home" segment dominated by legacy automakers and Chinese EV startups, but GAC is betting that场景 adaptation, architectural longevity and holistic vehicle engineering will differentiate it from competitors that focus primarily on physical size and feature stacking.
