Shifting to an Odd-Year Slot

The Beijing Auto Show has confirmed its next edition will take place from March 27 through April 5, 2027. According to the organizers, this iteration represents a milestone: it is the first time the biennial event will be staged in an odd-numbered calendar year.

The move follows a restructuring of China's major auto show calendar that began in 2020. Previously, the Beijing motor show alternated with the Guangzhou Auto Show on a two-year cycle but remained fixed to even years. The new format rotates the host city and the year parity so that Guangzhou continues to hold its flagship exhibition in even years while Beijing steps into the odd-year window. This split was designed to reduce congestion on exhibitors' launch timelines and give each city more breathing room for international OEMs and component suppliers.

What to Expect in March 2027

With the revised schedule now in place, the 2027 Beijing show is expected to serve as the primary global debut platform for several high-profile new-energy models aimed at the Chinese market. Industry watchers anticipate that major Chinese NEV brands will continue to leverage the odd-year Beijing slot for premium and technology-focused unveilings, while the even-year Guangzhou event tends to attract a heavier mix of commercial and mass-market launches.

Beijing has historically positioned itself as the first major auto show of each two-year cycle, which gives it a unique role in setting the narrative for the year ahead. That sequencing typically means the event receives substantial domestic and international media coverage, and many OEMs use the opening week to announce pricing, pre-order figures, and detailed technical specifications for vehicles that will reach dealerships by mid-year.

The 2027 edition also arrives as competition intensifies across the new-energy vehicle segment. Battery costs remain under pressure, fast-charging architectures are becoming more common, and smart-cockpit and advanced driver-assistance systems are now standard talking points at major Chinese auto shows. Attendees can therefore expect to see detailed demonstrations of 800V high-voltage charging, solid-state and semi-solid-state battery samples, and expanded City NOA feature rollouts.
