China's all-new ES8 has claimed the top spot in the premium new-energy SUV resale-value segment, posting a 77.5% retention rate in the latest industry report.

The ranking comes from the September 2026 China Auto Retention Value Research Report, jointly released on October 10 by the China Automobile Circulation Association and used-car data provider Jingzhen Gu at an event in Shanghai.

The ES8 belongs to the 350,000-yuan-plus (approx. $48,600) new-energy SUV tier — a competitive bracket that includes rivals such as the Li Auto L9 and Denza N9. A retention rate of 77.5% means the vehicle is expected to hold roughly three-quarters of its original price after three years, a strong showing for a Chinese BEV.

Industry analysts point to two structural advantages behind the figure. First, the ES8 is built on NIO's native pure-electric platform with core technologies developed in-house, giving the vehicle greater long-term reliability than models relying on adapted ICE architectures.

Second, the model supports NIO's Battery as a Service (BaaS) programme, which separates the battery asset from the body. This model insulates second-hand buyers from battery-degradation risk, a significant factor in Chinese NEV resale markets where replacement packs can run 80,000–120,000 yuan.

Delivery numbers reinforce the ES8's market position. Launched on September 20, 2025, the all-new ES8 crossed 150,000 cumulative deliveries by October 2026, setting a new benchmark for pure-electric SUVs priced above 400,000 yuan (approx. $55,600).

In retail sales, the ES8 ranks first in both the large-SUV segment and the 400,000-yuan-plus category, according to public data cited by the publisher.

Consumer sentiment tracks the numbers. The 2026 H1 New-Energy Vehicle Brand Health Study by research firm Jielanlu gave the ES8 a net-promoter score of 85.3 — the highest among BEVs surveyed — suggesting strong word-of-mouth propagation in a price band where brand loyalty matters most.

Combined, the retention rate, delivery volume and NPS score position the ES8 as the leading pure-electric large SUV in its class, and signal growing acceptance of BEV powertrains in the premium Chinese family-SUV market.
