South Shanghai Motor's MG brand reported strong September figures, with its newly launched MG 07 coupe claiming the No. 2 position in China's "no-qualifier sedan" sales ranking — behind only the Xiaomi SU7 — and the MG4 retaining its crown as the top-selling new-energy compact car.
According to data released by the Passenger Market Information Joint Conference under the China Automobile Distributors Association, the MG 07 delivered 14,577 units in its first month on sale, marking one of the fastest ramps-up by a recently launched NEV sedan in the 100,000–150,000 yuan segment. The MG4 family moved 16,969 units overall, with the MG4 variant alone accounting for 13,966 sales, extending its run as the leading pure-electric hatchback in China.
MG's global new-energy vehicle sales reached 84,176 units in September, while its pure-electric volume hit 30,292 units — surpassing several well-known Chinese NEV startups in monthly BEV deliveries.
MG 07: range, platform and pricing
The MG 07 is offered in both pure-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. The BEV 845 edition is rated at 845 km CLTC range and rides on an 800V high-voltage platform with 5C super-fast charging. Radar-equipped trims and above come with LiDAR-based smart driving hardware.
The PHEV 245 edition delivers 245 km of pure-electric range and a combined 1,745 km total range, targeting buyers who lack home charging access but need long-distance capability without range anxiety.
Standard equipment across the range includes frameless four-door design, a fastback silhouette, front and rear seat ventilation/heating/massage, a 168 L frunk (pure-electric version), 697 L boot, and mCDC electromagnetic suspension on every model.
No official launch price was disclosed in the source material; the MG 07 is positioned in the 100,000–150,000 yuan (approx. $13,889–$20,833) segment.
MG4 sustains hatchback dominance
The MG4 has now crossed 200,000 cumulative units since launch, defying the common industry pattern where volume models fade within three months. Core technologies include CATL-sourced CTB battery-body integration, an integrated thermal management system, and mixed solid-liquid battery chemistry.
MG said the sustained sales strength reflects its globalization strategy, leveraging SAIC's R&D resources and supply-chain scale to differentiate in a segment often criticized for product homogenization.
The brand's September results signal a return to the upper tier of China's competitive NEV market, with both new-model momentum and established volume products contributing to the gain.
