XPENG has been appointed secretary-general of the newly established "Task Force on Exchange of Information for Autonomous Driving Scenarios" (TF-ESRI), a working group under the UN Economic Commission for Europe's (UNECE) Group of Experts on Automated/Autonomous Vehicles and Connected Vehicles (GRVA). This marks the first time a Chinese enterprise has held a secretary-general position within the UN's autonomous driving regulatory core framework.
TF-ESRI is co-chaired by China and France. Its members include regulators, certification bodies, technical experts and automotive industry representatives from around the world. The group's work focuses on exchanging information and practical experience across different countries and regions regarding road conditions, traffic behavior and autonomous driving safety performance — mapping safety challenges in diverse environments and providing reference data for industry R&D and testing certification.
XPENG undertakes the secretary-general role on behalf of the International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), with support from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. It shares coordination and operational duties with the secretary-general of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
The appointment builds on XPENG's ongoing participation in UN WP.29 regulatory discussions. In February, the company represented Chinese automakers at an informal working group meeting on autonomous driving systems held in Shanghai, where it showcased its advanced driver-assistance technologies and shared real-world application cases from Chinese roads.
On the technology front, XPENG is advancing European localization of its smart driving systems. In July, the company completed localized acceptance testing in Germany for its second-generation Turing AI VLA (Vision-Language-Action) large model, which uses a unified technical foundation adapted to both Chinese and European road conditions — laying groundwork for future European market production.
In September, media outlets tested XPENG's NGP and Tesla's FSD on public roads in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Both systems completed most driving scenarios in the city's water-rich, mixed-traffic environment. Tesla FSD had already completed testing and opened the feature to customers there, while XPENG's localization testing remains underway.
At the upcoming 2026 Paris Motor Show, XPENG will participate in a "Smart Driving Lab" public experience session alongside Tesla, allowing media and visitors to test both advanced driver-assistance systems — marking XPENG's first large-scale public showcase of NGP in Europe.
Through the TF-ESRI platform, XPENG plans to continue contributing the scenario experience accumulated from China's autonomous driving deployments to global technical exchange on scenarios, safety and testing standards. The company also stated it will keep advancing development of smart electric vehicles, humanoid robots and Robotaxi products while participating in international industry technical discussions.
