About 61 million passenger cars in China were equipped with L2-level driver assistance features as of August, according to industry data. Of those, approximately 15 million now have navigate-on-autopilot (NOA) capability — a significant step up from basic lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control.

L2 assistance, which includes features like adaptive cruise control and lane-centering, has become increasingly standard across Chinese passenger vehicles. NOA takes this further by allowing the vehicle to autonomously handle highway navigation tasks such as on-ramp merging, lane changes, and exit ramp selection, with the driver remaining responsible for monitoring.

The growth in NOA-equipped vehicles reflects the fast pace at which Chinese automakers and tech companies are rolling out advanced driver-assistance systems. Brands such as XPENG, NIO, Li Auto, and Huawei-backed AITO and Luxeed have been prominent in offering NOA functionality, with many models now able to deliver the feature across extensive highway networks.

Industry analysts note that the gap between L2 adoption and NOA penetration remains wide, suggesting room for growth as costs decline and regulatory frameworks evolve. The current figure of roughly 15 million NOA-capable vehicles represents a meaningful but still early stage of deployment in one of the world's largest auto markets.
