Goodyear Tackles Tesla Model YL Floor Mat Edge-Lifting With 3D-Scanned Design
Goodyear addresses the common Model YL floor mat edge-lifting issue through 3D laser scanning, one-piece injection molding, and a dual-fixing system with anti-slip ribs rather than nails.

Tesla Model YL owners frequently discuss a common frustration in owner groups: floor mat edges lifting up near the seat rails. The problem is both visual and practical — raised edges trap dirt and debris that prove difficult to clean out over time.
Goodyear, an original Tesla supplier, is approaching the issue from an engineering perspective. The company says edge-lifting isn't inevitable — it's the result of three factors: template fit, manufacturing process, and the fixing method.
Where Lifting Comes From
Goodyear identifies two root causes. First, ill-fitting templates: many aftermarket mats use universal designs whose curvature and clip positions don't align with the Model YL's original floor contours, leaving edges floating. Second, poor manufacturing: inadequate blow-molding or injection processes leave material prone to hardening and deforming at stress points, causing edges to curl after months of use.
Adhesives and Velcro strips are, according to Goodyear, a stopgap that will fail again. The fix must start at the source.
Goodyear's Approach: Scan, Mold, Secure
Goodyear's high-edge TPE floor mats follow a "one vehicle, one mold" philosophy. Using 3D laser-scanned original vehicle data, the mats replicate clip positions and surface curves at millimeter precision, leaving virtually no gap for edges to lift.
The one-piece injection-molded construction produces higher material density and structural stability compared to blow-molded alternatives, which are more susceptible to collapsing or wrinkling under foot pressure.
A dual-fixing system combines anti-slip reinforcing ribs on the TPE underside with Model YL–specific original clips, constraining all four edges firmly against the floor.
Ribs, Not Nails
Goodyear specifically distinguishes its anti-slip design from what many owners call "anti-slip nails." True nail-style grips create pointed contact points that can puncture original carpet over time, damaging the interior and reducing grip effectiveness.
Goodyear's rib-based design uses a flat contact surface for friction without penetrating the carpet, working in tandem with the dedicated clips for stable retention.
Warranty and Installation
The mats install flat without removing seats or modifying wiring, with video guides provided. The automotive-grade TPE material is rated for temperatures from -40°C to 95°C. Goodyear offers a six-year warranty on the mat body and lifetime free clip replacements.
For Model YL owners weighing options, Goodyear's pitch is straightforward: a supplier with Tesla OEM credentials, a clearly explained fixing logic, and the confidence to back it with a long warranty.
