BYD's ultra-luxury Yangwang sub-brand has officially named its upcoming executive sedan Dingyao, revealing a poster for the model previously known internally as HU. The announcement was made on October 27, 2026.

The new vehicle represents Yangwang's first foray into the ultra-luxury executive sedan segment, a market long dominated by the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class, Rolls-Royce Phantom, and Bentley Flying Spur. Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of Yangwang Sales, confirmed the car has been in development for three years and will carry forward the brand's existing design language.

Previous spy shots revealed a boxy silhouette with suicide doors and a LiDAR unit mounted on the roof. The vehicle is expected to measure around 5.5 meters in length, placing it firmly in the Maybach S-Class class, with a pricing estimate exceeding 2 million RMB (approx. $277,778).

Design and Technology

From released camouflage photos, the Dingyao features a prominent front grille and split headlamp arrangement consistent with the Yangwang family styling seen on the U8. The side profile shows a short front overhang, elongated rear overhang, and long rear suicide doors — a configuration typically reserved for flagship luxury sedans.

Reports suggest the vehicle may support BYD's Flash Charge fast-charging technology and could incorporate the brand's e4 four-motor system and Yunnián chassis control, both of which are already featured on the U8 and U9. There has also been speculation that the Dingyao could be among the first Yangwang models to use BYD's solid-state battery, though this remains unconfirmed by the company.

BYD has stated its full solid-state battery is targeted for batch demonstration vehicles around 2027, with large-scale deployment planned after 2030. The final powertrain and battery specification for the Dingyao have not been officially disclosed.

Yangwang's Expanding Lineup

Yangwang already markets the U7 executive sedan, the U8 and U8L off-road SUVs, and the U9 supercar. The 2026 U8L Dingzang edition launched in August 2026 at 1.458 million RMB (approx. $200,000) in a four-seat executive configuration.

Media reports indicate the Dingyao is expected to make its debut at an event in the United Arab Emirates. With a target price above 2 million RMB (approx. $277,778), the sedan would position BYD directly against the top tier of European luxury marques and mark the brand's most premium offering to date.
