GAC Aion is set to reveal the Ray 7, the first vehicle in its new Ray sub-brand, on August 19. The reveal marks the automaker's latest push to diversify its brand portfolio in China's increasingly competitive new-energy vehicle market.
Powered by a 180-kW electric motor supplied by Huawei, the Ray 7 is reportedly tuned for sporty handling, signaling Aion's intention to target driving enthusiasts rather than focusing solely on practicality and efficiency.
As the inaugural model for the Ray lineup, the Ray 7 will serve as a flagship to establish the sub-brand's identity. GAC Aion has been expanding its range of dedicated EV brands in recent years, including the premium Denza joint venture and its own main Aion brand, and the Ray sub-brand appears designed to capture a different segment of the market.
Details on pricing, range, battery capacity and other specifications have not yet been released. GAC Aion is expected to share further information ahead of the August 19 debut.
