Cadillac will open pre-sales for its all-new XT5 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21, the company confirmed, equipping the mid-size SUV with a dual-motor PHEV system, a 35.5kWh battery and the Momenta R7 world model for advanced driver assistance.
Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine rated at 115kW, paired with a 160kW front electric motor and a 110kW rear motor. The battery is a Ultium 5C ternary lithium unit, delivering a WLTC pure-electric range of 155km and a combined fuel consumption figure of 6.05 litres per 100km.
Momenta R7 World Model
The XT5 PHEV will be among the first production vehicles to feature the Momenta R7 world model, released in April 2026. Unlike traditional ADAS systems that focus on road and obstacle detection, the R7 model uses a three-layer architecture combining physical-rule pre-training, simulation-based long-tail scenario reasoning and reinforcement-learning-driven decision making. This allows the system to interpret object physics, motion causality and potential interaction logic, generating speed adjustments, path-planning and evasive-manoeuvre strategies that better match real-world behaviour.
Cadillac says the system can handle high-traffic commuting, complex intersections, auto parking, narrow-road pass-by situations and trace-reverse driving. It has been trained to respond to sudden events such as rolling objects, pedestrians stepping into the road, temporary road cones and door-opening incidents.
Chassis and Features
The XT5 PHEV rides on what Cadillac calls a full-terrain electric hummingbird chassis, working in concert with LiDAR to enable highway and urban navigation-on-autopilot (NOA) as well as all-scenario automated parking. The automaker has not yet disclosed pricing or exact trim levels for the new model.
The XT5 PHEV adds to Cadillac's electrified lineup in China, a market where legacy brands are increasingly relying on partnerships with Chinese technology firms to stay competitive in intelligent-driving features.
