CATL, the world's largest battery maker, has launched the Tectrans II for commercial vehicles, targeting long-haul electric trucks with a stated range of up to 1,000 km.
The heavy-duty truck variant of the Tectrans II supports megawatt-level fast charging, allowing the battery to reach 80% state of charge in approximately 25 minutes. The automaker has not yet disclosed the battery's capacity, specific chemistry, or pricing.
CATL introduced the Tectrans series for commercial applications in 2024. The second-generation iteration builds on that platform with improvements aimed at extending driving range and cutting charging time — two of the most critical factors for fleet operators considering electric trucks.
The push into long-range, fast-charging truck batteries comes as China's heavy-duty EV sector accelerates. Range anxiety and limited charging infrastructure remain key barriers to adoption among logistics companies, and a 1,000 km range would place the Tectrans II among the longest-range options available for electric semi-trucks globally.
