Toyota GR GT US Quota of 200–250 Units Sold Out Before Public Ordering

Toyota's new GR GT supercar allocation for the United States has been completely snapped up ahead of its public ordering phase, with the automaker capping production intentionally to keep the cars in the hands of real drivers rather than scalpers.

The first batch of Toyota GR GT units allocated to the US market has already sold out before public ordering officially opened. Toyota said it shipped approximately 200 to 250 vehicles, all of which found buyers through a pre-order vetting process.

Andrew Gilleland, Toyota's senior vice president of automotive operations, confirmed the sell-out and explained that the limited allocation was deliberate. "Our production won't satisfy market demand — that is by design," Gilleland said. He added that company chairman Akio Toyoda wanted to build a world-class high-performance sports car and that Toyota intentionally does not want to sell the GR GT to resellers or scalpers.

Prospective buyers must pass a Toyota review process before they are allowed to place an order. It remains unclear whether purchasers are required to sign an agreement committing not to resell the vehicle within a specified period.

Under the hood, the GR GT is powered by a new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with a hybrid assistance system. Peak output exceeds 641 horsepower, with maximum torque rated at 627 pound-feet (850 newton-meters). Power is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The GR GT marks Toyota's return to the mid-engine supercar segment and represents the culmination of years of development under Toyoda's leadership. The hybrid powertrain combines Toyota's performance-tuned hybrid technology with a high-revving twin-turbo V8, positioning the car as a direct rival to established European exotics.

While details on pricing and full specifications have yet to be released, the rapid sell-out of the initial US allocation signals strong demand from enthusiasts who prioritize driving engagement over investment speculation.
