Electric vehicle maker Luxeed, backed by Huawei, has added a new entry-level version of its RX compact SUV featuring an 81-kWh battery pack. The move also brings a 10% reduction to the model's starting pre-sale price compared with the original listing.

The new trim positions the RX more competitively in China's increasingly price-sensitive NEV segment, where automakers have been running aggressive discounting campaigns to boost volume. Luxeed did not disclose the exact pre-sale figure for the 81-kWh variant or the detailed range and performance specifications at the time of writing.

The RX was initially launched with a higher-capacity battery option and a corresponding entry price that placed it in a tightly contested mid-size electric SUV bracket. By introducing the smaller-battery version at a lower starting point, the brand aims to capture buyers who prioritise affordability over maximum range.

Luxeed's product strategy has increasingly centred on offering variants that span a wider price band, mirroring a trend among Huawei-partnered brands such as AITO, Stelato and Maextro. Industry analysts say the approach helps brands secure broader market share even if individual margin per unit is compressed.

China's NEV sector continues to see intensified competition, with many makers resorting to battery-capacity downgrades and price cuts rather than feature removals to hit target price points. The RX's updated entry-level offering is expected to go on sale shortly once pre-sale orders transition to final pricing and delivery schedules are confirmed.
